A Proud History
John Boos & Co. was originally founded in 1887 as a blacksmiths shop in Illinois, USA. The blacksmiths use the trunk of a sycamore tree to straighten the shock of the blacksmith's hammer. As the local butcher passed the shop, he noticed the block where the anvil was resting and thought it would be perfect for use in his meat store. John Boos kindly agreed to produce one for him and the rest is history.

John Boos & Co. is now a highly respected manufacturer of butcher's blocks, cutting boards and kitchen worktops, supplying to both commercial and domestic customers, even the White House. Cut from select Northern hard rock maple, these blocks provide extremely durable work surfaces, whilst being easy on knives and resisting nicks and gouges.
